EL PEZ PLOMO

Hi!!

First of all sorry about posting a bit late. these last weeks, as I told before, are being too busy, ridiculously busy, and this day even more, it is nice to have a job... but maybe is not as nice to have 3 at the same day o_0.

Well, for today I´m posting the concept art of a short film I worked in as an illustrator during my studies in Norwich plus the short film. I made the character design (interesting work cause the cast was choosen after de designs were done) and I also made the illustrations for the animatic (minute 07:43).

The short film is called "El Pez Plomo" (the leather fish), and directed by Paul Urkijo. Unfortunatelly it is in spanish and not translated.

I´m telling the story below...

The story is about a scientist who goes to the basque country searching for the "leather fish" a very less known animal who suposedly lives there. When he asks to the fishermen, but they don´t know nothing about the leather fish and finally they don´t make a nice relation with him. Then he finds an old man who suposedly knows about that fish. The young scientist goes with the old man to his little boat to look for the fish...
When they are far from the coast, the old man starts telling a story about a lighthouse-keeper who fell in love with a mermaid... This mermaid ate sailors from the ships who crashes against the rocks, so the lighthouse keeper, at midnight, swiched-off the lighthouse for feeding her... finally they have a son...
The young scientist started geting bored and asking about the leather fish. The old man quickly takes a rifle and ask the scientist why is he not trusting him. Finally the old man forces the scientist to go out from the boat to the beach. Scared, the scientist tells the old man that it is imposible a human to have a son with a mermaid because mermaids haven´t got legs. The old man gets thoughtful... finally he goes to a cave near the beach and he shot´s "somebody" who was inside. Finally he goes out the cave happy saying "I will not have to feed her anymore!!".

I hope the sotry to be understandable with this briefing (in a bad spaniard english nobody knows).

At least enjoy the concept art plus the animatic (remember minute 07:43)

Dedicated to James Cope, who was studying with me in Norwich when I was making those sketches, I think he never saw the short film. NOW IS THE TIME!!

    Thanks Pepi

    the lead fish

The scientist is a student who looks for a " fish of lead " and rien of him in the tavern. There is an old man that for the history in the zone believes himself son of a siren who lives in an island, siren that uses the old man (his son) in order that it takes human meat to him.
The old man listens to the situation of the bar and takes the young person to feed his mother the siren.
The old man tells him the history and angered it takes him in order that his mother eats up it.
The young person says to him that it is impossible be a son of a siren because it is a fish. The old man entiente and it sees that has been used by the siren that cannot be his mother. It kills to the siren with the rifle and invites the young person to beer that does not want and leaves running.

  5. That's brilliant Raul, took me a while to finally watch the film but I'm glad I did! I certainly remember the animatic, and the illustrations work really well for the old guy telling the story. I didn't expect the ending to be quite to comical, but I only got the joke after reading your summary.

Slightly reminded me of Dagon, though I think only because that was also set in a Spanish fishing village.
