My latest piece, which I finished last Monday. I had painted the sun directly before but I wanted to up my game depicting it. So it's bigger than previous attempts with long sun rays and the landscape immediately around it is overwhelmed by the glaring light which I really like. I wanted the sun to almost come down on to the fields. The clouds and sky took several layers of paint to get that tanned look. The yellows and reds used are transparent and the dark undercoat is opaque so that's why. The shadowy hawthorn directly opposite the sun is a nice comparison with the sun itself; the dark branches similar to the rays spreading out from the sun. The view is on the opposite side of the road to the front gate of my home.
