Autumnal Briar Leaves 4 or 'The Lava Leaves'

Hi again.
Did another painting of the seasonal briar leaves.  This one was found in a neighbour's field.  In reality the leaves are four to five times smaller than their size in the painting.  I wanted a lighter background compared to the last one so put five or six layers of a mid green colour in the background.  It goes very well with the red edges of the leaves.  The leaves were very intense in colour and reminded me of lava, hence the alternative title.  I used magenta and vermillion red in some parts to give those areas a glow.

  1. I like the contrast between the realistic painted leaf and the plain green background. The rich yellow and orange colors of the leaf stand out amazingly. Great work. :)

  2. Great detail in this, love the colours as well!
